For the 2020 pageant season, we have decided to even more fully embrace a “modern” approach to pageantry by taking our national competition virtual. That’s right, throughout the month of July 2020 - MAM’s state titleholders will be competing at the national pageant exclusively online!
What inspired this shift in strategy? At MAM, we pride ourselves on embracing modern America, current cultural trends and inclusivity. With that in mind, we stepped back and asked ourselves - how can we reach even more well-rounded and charismatic young women and girls across the United States? How can we walk (the modern) walk by taking that philosophy and mission even further? In pageantry, contestants often run into challenges that limit them from experiencing various systems - whether it be conflicting competition dates, lack of availability or financial flexibility to travel, non-compete obligations, etc.
Our national pageant, given it’s format for 2020 will allow more young women and girls to compete within the MAM system without financial strain and without choosing between two systems that may be hosting contests on the same or dates close to one another. Furthermore, Modern American Miss does not require its state titleholders to adhere to a non-compete clause at the state level - we want our participants to continue expanding their horizons and taking advantage of all growth opportunities.
We are sticking to and even more intently focusing our mission of personalizing the experience for our contestants and bringing authenticity to pageantry. After all, what could be more individualized and real than competing in a full scale, national pageant from the comfort of your home state and on your own presentation terms.
So how will the national online competition work for contestants?
Evening Gown, Fashion and Fitness/Swim - contestants submit a 30 second runway style modeling video for each competition area in their competition wardrobe.
Interview - 1:1 Skype or FaceTime interview with each judge to take place at both participants’ convenience and submit one full-length photo in interview wardrobe.
Photogenic and Blog - judged separately upon electronic submission.
Social Media - scoring based on contestant’s dedicated Instagram account documenting her state title reign and journey to nationals.
Community Service Project - contestants automatically receive the full 5 points upon submitting proof of completion.
Upon completion of the virtual pageant, we will be announcing our special awards, court and national queens via an Instagram live awards ceremony. All national winners will earn an expenses-paid trip to NEW YORK CITY for a formal coronation event, professional photoshoot and fabulous weekend fit for a national queen and more amazing prizes from our sponsors! Our team is incredibly excited to launch this “modern” approach to pageantry in the upcoming 2020 season.
